RRB ALP CBT-2 Exam Pattern
Part | Questions | Duration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
Part A | 100 | 90 minutes | Marks considered for shortlisting and merit |
Part B | 75 | 60 minutes | Qualifying trade-based test |
Total | 175 | 150 minutes | One-third negative marking for wrong answers |
Part A Subjects
Mathematics
General Intelligence and Reasoning
Basic Science and Engineering
Part B Qualification
Part B is based on the candidate's trade and is qualifying in nature. Candidates must obtain the prescribed qualifying marks in Part B. Marks secured in Part B are not added to the final merit calculation.
How to Calculate Expected Marks
CBT-2 carries a penalty of one-third mark for every incorrect response. No mark is deducted for an unattempted question.
Estimated Score Formula
Correct Answers × 1 − Wrong Answers × 1/3
Example
Suppose a candidate has 72 correct answers, 18 wrong answers and leaves 10 questions unattempted in Part A:
Marks for correct answers: 72 × 1 = 72
Negative marks: 18 × 1/3 = 6
Estimated Part A score: 72 − 6 = 66 marks
The score calculated from the provisional key is only an estimate. The final score may change after accepted objections, final answer-key revision and normalisation.
What Happens After the Answer Key?
RRB examines the objections submitted by candidates.
Subject experts review the challenged questions and supporting references.
The final answer key is prepared after necessary corrections.
CBT-2 results and cut-off marks are declared RRB-wise.
Eligible candidates are shortlisted for the Computer-Based Aptitude Test.
Candidates who qualify CBAT proceed to Document Verification and Medical Examination.
CBAT Requirement
Shortlisted candidates must qualify every CBAT test battery separately. CBAT has no negative marking. Candidates should begin aptitude-test preparation without waiting for the CBT-2 result.
